The Sterkfontein Caves operate as an active research site. Tours take you down into a damp limestone cave system that stays at 16 to 18 degrees Celsius year-round.

Groups are capped at 30 people per slot to prevent overcrowding. Be prepared for uneven pathways, steep stairs, and narrow spaces during your underground walk.
